Wao Climate Action Initiative x Check In Queenstown
Karmela Rapata, Check In Queenstown, featured on Radio Wānaka to discuss the Wao Climate Action Initiative (CAI).
What interested Check In Queenstown in CAI? Karmela notes that the programme was exactly what they needed at the right time for their business, “we didn’t have the knowledge to calculate our carbon, we didn’t know what that meant, or how we move forward. The guided programme was absolutely perfect for us, so we jumped on board straight away.”
Karmela and her team have found understanding and calculating their greenhouse gas emissions really useful for their business, “the whole programme and Wao team were exceptional, all the workshops and support we had was great. But it was really understanding what we were responsible for which was the eye-opener. Setting those boundaries for our business and our key stakeholders as well. It really helped us to move forward and from that point we went with it.”
The Wao Climate Action Initiative is a 3 month program designed to enable local businesses and schools with the knowledge and tools to calculate their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and take action to reduce them. The program is fully funded by QLDC, Destination Queenstown and Lake Wanaka Tourism and is free to join. Applications for the first round have now been filled.
